USE A SET ROUTINE FOR EXAMINING THE ANTERIOR SEGMENT In order to be sure you do not miss any anomaly, you must get into the habit of using a set routine. A common routine is to examine the ocular structures in the following sequence. Lids and lashes Visible conjunctiva and cornea (direct or diffuse illumination) Instill fluorescein and measure the B.U.T. Detailed examination of the cornea Lid margins and palpebral conjunctiva (including lid eversion) Anterior chamber and angle measurement Iris Crystalline Lens Anterior vitreous Obviously the routine is modified if anomalies are found. In this learning module we will use the order given above.
